Motobatt Goes GP Moto2™ and Moto3™ Racing !

It’s official.  Motobatt is the exclusive battery sponsor of Red Bull KTM Ajo Motosport Racing Teams for Moto2™ and Moto3™ GP for the 2020 season. International exposure for the Motobatt brand will be substantial and even more so locally due to Brad Binder (Moto3 World Champion in 2016) having been promoted from Moto2 to Red Bull’s KTM Factory Racing Moto GP™ team.

The Motobatt sponsorship covers only Moto2 and Moto3 but South Africa’s viewing public follows all 3 race categories as a matter of course and with Binder having come up through the ranks to become a World Champion,  SA TV viewers will follow him. Motobatt advertising will be visible along the way.

The batteries used in Moto GP bikes are super light lithium units which are able to deliver huge cranking power for over 3000 start cycles compared to the limited 500 or 600 cycles of conventional acid, gel, or AGM, batteries.  Motobatt’s lithium batteries are used worldwide in motor cycle racing.

Lithium batteries have a crappy reputation for bursting into flames or even exploding, but this is misleading as this applies to the Li-ion type batteries used in laptops and cell phones. Motobatt’s lithium products use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) technology which is super safe and not subject to the thermal runaway possibilities of Li-ion products.

If you want a lithium battery for your Adventure bike or big cruiser which is loaded with accessories, forget it. For now anyway.  Lithium Iron batteries don’t like slow power drainage (their low Ah ratings indicate this). They’ll spin any starter motor with a lot more clout than a standard battery, but they don’t like powering things like radios, GPS, anti-theft, devices, or cell phone charging units.

Having said that, technology is advancing rapidly and Motobatt has just launched their cutting edge  Hybrid range of batteries which use a system of combined lithium and AGM technology. These products are expensive right now due to R&D and start-up costs but these outlays will be amortised over production volumes and the products will become more affordable in the near future.

Motobatt’s Hybrid batteries deliver staggering increases in cranking power, Ah ratings, and battery life cycles. If you would like more info on this contact me via our Contact Us facilty on this website.
