Tyres Produced From Flowers?
Conti Expands Its Reputation as The World’s Leading Innovator in Bicycle Tyre Technology
How about this for staying one step ahead in bicycle tyre R&D. Conti has produced a tyre made from rubber which is extracted from dandelions growing in Europe instead of from rubber trees in Malaysia? The factyory has been researching this since 2013 in conjunction with the dandelion rubber research and development team at the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology in Germany.
Introducing Conti’s Urban Taraxagum Bike Tyre
This year Conti released their first dandelion bike tyre the Urban Taraxagum™. This is a limited production edition produced for a program of sustainability strategies. There are major benefits to Conti in the use of dandelion rubber in terms of near and easy access to raw materials in the EU instead of shipping Malaysia. Eco benefits are substantial as dandelions grow easily even in the temperate EU climates and in conditions of low grade soil.
